Dental CrownsWe at Mekari Dental Studio & Spa General Dentistry in Metairie strive to help all our patients love their smiles. For those who have damaged or decayed teeth, dental crowns are a convenient and permanent way to restore your smile while providing some dental protection.

All About Dental Crowns

When possible, we restore teeth with porcelain or silver fillings. When there isn’t enough tooth left to fill, we recommend a crown to complete your smile.

Dental crowns are permanent prosthetics that cover problem teeth, restoring it to its original attractive appearance and strengthening teeth positioning. We simply fit the covering over your original tooth.

Crowns have the advantages of holding cracked or damaged teeth together, can restore fractured or cracked teeth, can restore dental implants, improve your smile, and even protect teeth after a root canal. Crowns are durable and strong, lasting anywhere between 5 and 15 years.

Fitting a crown generally requires at least two visits to the dentist's office. We’ll take accurate 3D scans or impressions of your teeth so we can shape the best crown possible. X-rays also help us spot any other health issues you might have. The most common are infections and tooth decay, which can lead to a root canal.

Your affected teeth will be filed down and reshaped to have a crown fitted over it. We provide a temporary crown while your permanent crown is made. Once your crown is ready, we’ll cement it in place. Regular dental cleaning will preserve your crown for many years.

Beautify Your Smile in Metairie

At your first appointment we will take several impressions that will be used to create your custom crown. After you are comfortable and your tooth is completely numb, we’ll remove decay, shape your tooth, take a final impression and place a temporary crown until your permanent crown is returned from the dental lab 1-2 weeks later.

At your second appointment (often called the "crown seat" appointment) your beautiful new crown will be permanently bonded in place. Your dentist will carefully check the spacing and bite of your new crown to make sure it will be strong and comfortable. You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits for cleanings and to check on your new crown.
